In mid-1992, BATS broadband seismic network in the Taiwan region was established. It was initially designed with 15 permanent stations located in Taiwan and its surrounding islands. Currently, 37 broadband stations are operated by IES, including 2 stations located in the South China Sea. The station distribution can be referred below. More information can be found in https://bats.earth.sinica.edu.tw/. The BATS instrumentation is designed to meet a wide range of research needs. All permanent stations are equipped with state-of-the-art very broadband and strong-motion sensors, and are connected to 24- or 26-bit digital recorders. Data streams with multiple sampling rates (100, 20, 1 samples per second) have been recorded continuously since 2002. Each station supports internet connectivity to enable real-time data transmission. Telemetry methods include Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line (ADSL), mobile communication, and Very Small Aperture Terminal (VSAT). Real-time data are archived using Antelope and Seiscomp softwares.
